Match Preview v Manchester City Ladies

Yeovil Town Ladies travel away to play the FA Women's Super League 1 & FA Cup Champions this Sunday!

Manchester City return to FA WSL 1 Spring Series action on Sunday with the visit of the newly-promoted Yeovil.

After their FA Cup triumph over Birmingham, Man City turn their focus back to league action, where they currently sit third in the table, level on points with Chelsea and with two games in hand over league-leading Liverpool.

Yeovil are still looking for their first win of the season after five defeats so far in the Spring Series.

Manchester City convincingly beat Bristol City 3-0 in their last FA WSL game before the Cup final thanks to a Toni Duggan hat-trick.

City are six points behind leaders Liverpool but have two games in hand over them and will have their eye on adding more silverware to their trophy cabinet.

For Yeovil, it has been a tough start to the Spring Series, with five defeats from five and the Glovers have scored just four goals.

With Yeovil being promoted from FA WSL 2 last season, this is the first league meeting between the two sides.

ONE TO WATCH – Toni Duggan (Manchester City)

With a hat-trick in her last FA WSL 1 Spring Series outing against Bristol City, Duggan will be in confident mood ahead of facing Yeovil.

The striker scored six league goals last season and will be looking to match or exceed that total in the remaining games in this Spring Series.

Manchester City defender Megan Campbell said:

“We’re really looking forward to the game against Yeovil.

“They’re a new team in our league, so it’s going to be interesting to see what they bring to the plate.

“We’re going into the game on a high with the FA Cup win, so there are going to be positive vibes but we know we can’t let up.

“We’re focused on the Spring Series. We want to win as many trophies as we can.

“We have won three trophies in quick succession. Moving on, we want to win the Spring Series and progress further.”

Yeovil midfielder Angharad Jamesadded:

“Man City are on fire at the moment and with the FA Cup win, they'll have a spring in their step and will be looking to win by a few I think.

“We need to keep the ball a bit better against them than we did against Reading. It's tiring when you're chasing the ball a lot and I think it showed because when we were in possession, we just kept giving it back.

“I think if we can work on that aspect of the game, it will be huge for us against City and hopefully we can come away with some points. It's about starting right and keeping the ball, recycling it, and then we can show what we're about in the final third.

“It's just about getting as many points as we can now in the last three games. The Spring Series doesn't mean much but it's good to get to a good level ready for the winter league.”
