Exciting times ahead, with life in new professional set up
After months of planning and tireless amounts of work, Yeovil Town Ladies FC can today confirm that the club is to turn professional for the 2018/19 season.
Having just completed the clubs first season in the FA Women’s Super League One as the only part time team, conditions have been put on the new league structure, meaning that in order for Yeovil to remain in the highest tier of women’s football, the club would need to turn professional.
In September 2017, Yeovil Town Ladies FC began the planning to submit a lengthy application and business plan, which was given a conditional licence in December. Today brings the official notification from The FA, meaning that life in the top tier will remain, but in exciting and professional surroundings.
What this granted licence effectively means, is that the clubs plans of training between 16-20 hours per week, will begin in preseason, with additional sports science and medical support. The top tier licence also means seeing the implementation of a Dual Careers Academy programme for players in education aged 16+ which will replace the former Development Team.
The Somerset club is also pleased to announce that it has secured a full time training facility, consisting of its very own bespoke grass training pitches, along with access to a 3G pitch, meeting rooms, analysis suite, performance lab and a high performance Strength and Conditioning Gym, all of which will be based at Bridgwater and Taunton College.
In the 2017/18 season, Yeovil Town Ladies competed against other top tier teams who were all full time and the change in professionalism is sure to enable players to reach bigger heights of performance.
In the very near future, the club will be announcing news of its new Head Coach, following the departure at the end of the 2017/18 season of long standing manager Jamie Sherwood.
With new Board of Directors appointments also made, the club are keen to make further progress on many levels in the future and aim to share more news on this soon as well.
The new season which kicks off in August will now see Yeovil Town Ladies hosting Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Reading, Brighton & Hove Albion, Bristol City, Birmingham, West Ham and Everton.
