Emma Brazell has been involved with Yeovil Town Ladies in most areas of its set up since she was in her very early teens. She has always played a vital role both on and off the pitch in her fourteen years at the club, and even at the tender age of twenty-seven, she is already one of the it’s greats!

Known as ‘Manners’ by her team mates (Maiden name was Manley), Emma is a tough tacking right back, who is equally at home playing on the flank of midfield, or in the middle of the park.

She reads the game with exceptional speed, and is as much noted for her defence splitting passes, as she is for her fine forward runs. With this in mind, she is also an excellent wingback, and has an exceptional assist rating.

Emma is also a great leader on the pitch, and has played an integral part in the club’s successes, throughout most of its history.

Manners joined Yeovil Town Ladies at the age of thirteen when the club was still known as Sherborne Ladies. For the first year she had to be content with a training role only as she was not old enough to play senior football. (The club had no youth set up in those days). She went on to make her first team debut at the age of fourteen, and has been involved virtually ever since.

Her talent was also noted at an early age, with her picked to play for the Somerset County Under-18 side.

When she was sixteen Emma, together with Kia Bowles, set up the first Yeovil Town Ladies youth team. Using coaching methods well beyond their years, the two girls nurtured countless good young talent, many of who went on to play for the first team, with many of the later players to come through now being some of the club’s most promising youngsters.

Emma has always believed in putting as much back into football as she takes from it, and as well as training the youth at the Ladies club, she has also helped coach youngsters at a number of the Yeovil Town Community Summer Soccer Schools.

However, Emma’s prime objective has always been playing, and in that capacity she has always excelled. At a very early age she was made club captain, and her proudest moment was lifting the Somerset Premiere Cup in 2005.

In 2006 she took a career break when she and her husband decided to start a family. The result of this was delight for the whole club when she gave birth to her daughter Evie.

Emma always intended coming back into the game, and did so during the 2007/08 season. She had to bide her time for a while in the reserves, but was soon back into first team contention, and playing an important role.

The 2008/09 season saw Manners back as a fixture on the right back, and following an injury to Sarah Lawler, she also regained her captain’s armband. She went on to have an exceptional season, and finished it by being presented with the Secretary’s Player of the Season award.

Emma Brazell has always been a vital part of Yeovil Town Ladies, and continues to be one of its pivotal components, as it battles for promotion this season to the Premier League, Southern Division.
