Kim Short has not only played throughout the spine of the Yeovil Town Ladies team, she is the spine of the team! In many respects she is the complete player, and in recognising this, it becomes obvious that she is one of the most important members of the squad.
Not that she would agree with you, such is her modesty. Kim has played in goal; she is a great tackler of the ball, a very good passer and scores her fair share of goals too. In essence she would be a vital component in any team.
Kim has only ever played for Yeovil Town Ladies, and in doing so she started off in midfield, but in recognising her tackling ability, manager Steve Phelps eventually moved her to the centre of defence where she build up an impressive partnership with Rachael Edwards.
Using her great strength, height, spatial awareness and natural ability, Kim soon became one of the most respected defenders in the league, known for fair but tough tackling, excellent heading ability, coolness on the ball, fine distribution and good team play - operating in one of the meanest back fours in the region.
Kim also loves getting forward, and has used her heading ability to score goals on a consistent basis, also using her presence to put pressure on defences from whichever position she is playing.
In 2008 Steve Phelps gave her a spell back in the midfield, where she excelled putting in a string of excellent performances until she unfortunately Kim broke her ankle in the mud and wet at Forest Green Rovers in the October of that year. She made a fine recovery, and returned to help the team to promotion from the South West Combination in 2009/10.
Kim has now settled back into a defensive role, but when called upon still plays a vital roll in midfield, and she is once again one of Steve Phelps’ vital players as the Glovers establish themselves at Premier League level.
