Charlie Hannam is a highly promising midfielder, who even as a youngster is one of the club’s most gifted players, and looks to have a massive future in the game.
Charlie is a tall and powerful midfielder, who is well equipped to play an attacking role in the centre of the park. She is a fine passer of the ball, and possesses great speed and ball control, so is also very effective playing on the right wing.
Charlie is a fine all round player with a good natural instinct in and around the box, and with her having a powerful kick, she scores her fair share of goals. She’s not a greedy player though, and is always looking to bring other players into the game, using her good footballing brain to set up her team mates for a multitude of goal scoring opportunities.
She has always loved her football, and started playing in the boys’ game at school when she was just four years old. She joined Yeovil Town Ladies at the age of eleven, and is another graduate of the coaching of Kia Bowles.
Charlie progressed though the system, developing into a well-rounded and highly talented player under the careful guidance of Bowles. When she was thirteen years old she was chosen to play for the Somerset Centre of Excellence, and for the next two years combined playing for Yeovil and County.
When she was fifteen, the rules of duel registration for club and county changed, with players only allowed to play for one or the other. Charlotte thought long and hard, and eventually chose Yeovil. Somerset’s loss was the Glovers’ gain as Charlotte went on to star in the now famous 2008 Under-Sixteen ‘double’ winning side.
At the start of the 2008/09 season Charlie was still too young for senior football, but she patiently bided her time, and worked hard, and broke into the first team set-up during the 2009/10 season, making an immediate impact with performances way above her tender years. However, towards the end of the season she unfortunately damaged her cruciate knee ligament, and is presently part way through 12 months rehabilitation. The whole club are behind Charlie and are counting the days to her welcome return.
